Edyth Bush Foundation

Situation

The Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation sought a new headquarters that would embody its commitment to nonprofit support and community collaboration. The previous building had become outdated and no longer met the organization’s needs. In 2020, the Foundation initiated the demolition of the existing structure to make way for a purpose-built acility that would reflect its vision.

The new design incorporated a striking exterior inspired by theater and the arts. The gray brick façade was conceptualized to represent stage wings, while the expansive glass curtain wall symbolized transparency and openness. To achieve this vision, the project required expert craftsmanship to integrate these architectural details while ensuring durability and functionality.

With extensive experience in complex exterior wall systems, KENPAT earned the role of exterior contractor, responsible for multiple key elements of the building’s envelope.

Task

KENPAT’s scope of work included:

• Exterior Metal Framing – Providing a structural framework for exterior walls.

• Exterior Sheathing – Installing sheathing materials for stability and as a base for exterior finishes.

• Exterior Stucco – Applying high-quality stucco to achieve a seamless blend with adjacent structures.

• Exterior GFRC Shapes – Fabricating and installing architectural Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) elements to enhance the building’s façade.

• Exterior Flashing and Sealants – Implementing waterproofing solutions to protect the structure from environmental exposure.

Action

To ensure the project’s success, KENPAT worked closely with EYP Architecture & Engineering and Brasfield & Gorrie, collaborating from the early stages to align on the project’s vision, design specifications, and material selections. This partnership ensured that every aspect of the exterior construction adhered to the project’s architectural intent while maintaining structural integrity. KENPAT faced the challenge of seamlessly integrating GFRC elements and stucco finishes to create a cohesive aesthetic that complemented both the new construction and the renovated portions of the facility. KENPAT’s expertise in exterior wall systems played a crucial role in achieving this balance, ensuring that the transition between old and new was virtually imperceptible.

Applying the exterior stucco required precision to achieve a consistent, high-quality surface. KENPAT prioritized attention to detail, ensuring the exterior façade became a focal point of the building’s design. Throughout the project, efficient management and execution remained a priority. KENPAT maintained a streamlined workflow to meet construction timelines while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. This disciplined approach ensured that all exterior elements were completed on schedule, contributing to the timely and successful delivery of the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation Headquarters.

Result

KENPAT’s expertise in exterior wall systems played a crucial role in achieving the architectural intent of “The Edyth.” The completed facility stands as a visually striking, highly functional space designed to serve the nonprofit community. KENPAT’s seamless integration of GFRC and stucco elements created a cohesive, polished exterior that enhances the building’s prominence on campus.

The Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation Headquarters serves as a central hub for nonprofit organizations, hosting numerous events, workshops, and collaborative meetings.
